My response to dVerse poetry Pub Poetics: Listen to the Mockingbird

Silvery light slipped through the blind
Scratching at the edges of her mind
A faded monochrome
Distant dream of home
In the garden a thrush trilled its morning song
Another bird began to sing along
A different timbre and yet the same
She sat up and tried to recall its name
A passing crow cawed
The bird cawed too
A blackbird whistled
The bird whistled too
She look out of the window
And in full view
Was not one mockingbird
But two

Ah.. what a wonderful image… yes two mockingbirds can be any set of birds. What a lovely end to the story… In summer when sun rises early here in Sweden I could wake to bird as early as 3AM

Apparently mockingbirds have made their way to Britain but only very rarely.
