Brave and Quiet

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Writing Prompt #149 “Collage 18”

The quote “You’re So Brave and Quiet I forget you’re suffering.” Ernest Hemingway.

 

Behind the trusty doors of confession

A soul is bared

Unaware

That someone else is listening

And later

Over coffee

The story creeps across a kitchen table

Grotesque gossip

Woven like a spider’s web

Each word

Overheard

Not theirs to embellish with a sticky thread

Oblivious to the truth

Captured

Not in gossamer

But celluloid proof

That you’re so brave

And quiet

I forget you’re suffering
