My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Heeding Haiku With Chèvrefeuille – a haibun inspired by the following haiku:
what a mystery
leaves falling year after year
without mourning

Our garden is wild. Nothing is manicured or tamed, maybe trimmed sometimes to allow sunshine and a view. Its inhabitants are trees and shrubs, some of which produce fruit and berries, to the delight of the many birds, as well as deer, hedgehogs, field mice and squirrels.
Throughout the winter, plants die back, leaves cover the ground and fruit rots. But in spring, everything comes back to life.
bulbs sleep underground
safe below the winter snow
blooming every spring

Gorgeous haibun Kim. I like how you have caught the circle of life in very tasteful manner.
