I just received another email to say that this poem made the shortlist but unfortunately didn’t make the final cut. The magazine to which I submitted had a great many submissions. They wished me the best of luck publishing this work quickly elsewhere.
The sea rises
Eating away the coast
Until the village
Becomes an island ghost
Deserted
Derelict
Dangerous
Haunted by gulls
And scavengers
A watery soundscape
Of bubbles and splashes
Rumbles and crashes
Accompanies the tidal creep
While the last traces of habitation
Await the final slip into the salty deep

It’s a case of perseverence I’m afraid.Sometimes it takes a long time to be included or to win a prize. Don’t give up and don’t let it get you down. It will happen for you.
