My response to Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo Thursday Photo Prompt – Mine -#writephoto

Green sheen
Of mould on wood
Colour wash
Of nature’s brush
The chimney’s cold
The roof is gone
Rainwater streaks
The solid stone
A ruined hearth
No warming fire
Just broken earth
Nettle and briar

There is just something so haunting and sad about a ruin, a place where fire once burned brightly and life was lived.

When I lived in the middle of nowhere in Ireland, many years ago, there was a ruined cottage on the land that belonged to the house we lived in. It still had everything in it after the family died of TB or something. There were still plates and things on the table, and there was a patina of green on the wood and the roof had caved in. Sue’s picture reminded me of it.

Wow! That is sort of spooky.

Lovely. The words fall like the rain down the side of the ruin.

I like this. Damp and earthy and quiet.

your poem worked as inspiration to my story but is not as haunting as yours.
