My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Wordle Special Addition Sound “August 1st, 2016”

In the humidity
of a hot damp summer,
strident weeds whoosh and rustle
as they explode
through pavements
scratching as they hustle and bustle
in dusty verges and vacant
parking lots.
Percussive and floridly flagrant,
rusty dock leaves
clash with crackling nettles,
echo
in the hedgerow,
in amongst the willowherb,
popping pink, all aglow
and buzzing with bees,
and bindweed
opening its sonorous white trumpets
with a thready pulse.
Overhead,
grey clouds deafen
with their gurgle,
washboard skiffled
by the whistle
of the wind
in a noisy nocturne.
