Painting a Smile on the Moon

In the smeared window

appears a sad silver face

tangled in tendrils of willow,

staring down from space

through a veil of mist

and cosmic dust.

She rises ghostly,

a pale apple in a tree,

daring me

to take up my brush,

to paint a blush

upon her cheek,

a smile upon her mouth,

to unhook the moon,

a white balloon,

a runaway bride

dancing face to face with Earth.

  1. Wonderful whimsey in this, & a very creative message with terrific wordsmithing. See you got caught up in the fun of the prompt, & wrote two more poems; that’s great fun & fellowship, but it makes the rest of us look like slackers; smile.

  2. This was such an enjoyable read. I saw the moon “tangled in tendrils of willows” …such a pretty scene and yes, as Bryan put it, the “makeover” ..what a delightful way to bring the moon to life.
