Changing Shifts at Twilight

diffusion of light
fleeting in-between moment
ambiguous time
when daytime birds stop singing
owls and nightingales begin

I’ve also taken a poem I posted last December and reworked it into a new tanka:

the moon is opaque
a soft veil – a thin thumbnail
a comma in a long day
a no time between sunset
and night-dark saturation

Twilight

My response to Carpe Diem #1060 twilight

Today’s prompt is ‘twilight’ the time between the ending of the day and the beginning of the night with its deep blue, almost black, colour. The last sunbeams disappear behind the horizon and the moon starts to glow
Here are haiku by Jane which she uses as an example for this modern kigo ‘twilight’:

darkness slipping in
water that cannot be still
twilight

nautical twilight

the sea gives its last light
to the sky

twilight

among early stars
sea bird’s cry

  1. I love it all. I love the observations the contemplations of your writing. There is so much beauty in the sky, the moon, and the birds….and I laughed at the division when owls and nightingales start their songs…that particular time of dusk when this shift happens. Lovely, lovely work.
