Today it has rained rust
From dawn until dusk,
A steady trickle of oxidation,
Scented with must of degeneration:
A kaleidoscopic downpour
Of fragments of copper
In the odd trick of bright
That sets leaves alight,
That slips between raindrops
And drips and plops.

My response to imaginary garden with real toads A Splash of Rust & Gold ~ Micro Poetry
Today we are putting the ’mini’ back into the Sunday Mini-Challenge and returning to the option of form poetry, where the object of the challenge is to write a poem in no more than 10 lines (but it can be in fewer than 10 lines all the way down to a single American sentence), choosing our own form or writing in free verse, if preferred.
Thank you, Kerry, for inspiring us with such a gorgeous quotation from John Pepper Clark’s poem, Ibadan:
Nigeria
This so perfectly reflects the autumnal change in weather and pace of life. Great use of form, in all a stylish short piece.

Thank you, Kerry. That quotation is superb. I don’t know of many Nigerian poets, so I’ll be looking out for more.

Your form feels like drips and trickles and your choice of words so descriptive.

We have exactly this type of weather… the leaves and the drops… we are really falling.
