a single flake
glistening in the moonlight
heralds morning snow

My response to Carpe Diem Seven Days Before Christmas 2016 #4 first snow
We are counting down to Christmas 2016 in this CD special feature and Chèvrefeuille is dreaming of a white Christmas; he says that they haven’t had a white Christmas in The Netherlands for several years and this year it’s too warm. Which is why today’s prompt is ‘first snow’ – a classical kigo. He has also shared some of his own haiku with the theme of ‘first snow’:
first snow has fallen
prints of bare feet to the fence –
sweeping the path
virgin snow
stepping into it like a child
bare footed
winter morning
the fragile light of the sun
reflects in the snow
a cold moonlit night
just the sound of fresh fallen snow –
wandering over the moors
