how to grow a rose
so red it burns winter ice
feed it bones and blood
Kim M. Russell, 2017

My response to Carpe Diem #1300 The Rose
Today we have the first of two quatrains from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam which Chèvrefeuille thinks cannot be read apart, quatrain XXIV:
I sometimes think that never blows so red
The Rose as where some buried Caesar bled;
That every Hyacinth the Garden wears
Dropt in its Lap from some once lovely Head.
