Morning Shivers

Winter’s at its lowest ebb,
with branches bare against low skies
and frost crisp at the river’s edge.

Dawn carves grooves into the ice
formed on the garden pond,
where grass seeds are petrified

into brittle frozen fronds.
Early morning has been captured
in a sparkling silver sculpture.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Tuesday Poetics: How are you feeling today? and ,linked to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Tuesday Platform

Lill is hosting this Tuesday’s poetics, her last time hosting until mid-February. She asks how we’re feeling today and then invites us to get our groove on by writing a poem that includes the word ‘groove’ or a form of the word in the body of the poem.

  1. Technically, Winter has not arrived yet, but it was 23 degrees here this morning and the frost sculpting was
stark and hip and frozen cool; maybe Fall just said “screw it” and it has put on its long johns and ear muffs, and we just have to pick up the icy slack.

    1. Thank you, Alison. I ventured out yesterday as the snow seemed to disappear. However, the ice was still there in our nearby market town and I nearly came a cropper on the untreated car park and pavements. Even my Doc martens found it slippery!

      1. I returned home yesterday afternoon after staying at my sons for 2 nights and did not have grippy shoes, never mind my grippy boots I feel relatively safe (in) when wearing. And the snow came and the ice came and the fear of falling overwhelmed. My drive is on an incline and my lovely DiL had to link me and walk me to my door. I felt very old…
