scorching desert heat
no blissful leafy forest
only dusty roads

My response to Carpe Diem #1362 Gansu (Northern route)
This month we are on a journey ‘Along The Silk Road’ through China and around the Taklamakan Desert while reading Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. In today’s episode, we have reached Gansu, an important strategic outpost and communications link for the Chinese empire, with the desolate Tibetan Plateau in the south and the Gobi Desert and the grasslands of Outer Mongolia in the north.
Groovy scenes.. 😎🥀😎🥀

This sums up Mongolia perfectly. We didn’t see a tree until the last couple of days of our tour, just endless grassland, steppe and sand dunes. I’ve just posted my photos of Mongolia and hope to visit China sometime soon.
