My response to Carpe Diem #1444 barley autumn (mugi no aki)

Throughout June our inspiration will be classical seasonwords (kigo) for Summer (and Winter) and we’ll be following the classical rules. The reason we will be writing about two seasons is to cover both hemispheres: in the northern hemisphere, the summer season has begun, whereas in the southern hemisphere it’s their winter.

The first prompt for this month of summer kigo is barley autumn (mugi no aki), which refers to the time in which barley ripens.
