The sky is blasted with dragonish clouds
that blacken an ancient wind-blustered
landscape long ago weathered
into ridge and furrow,
dissolving the veil between human and nature,
between yesterday and tomorrow.
Murmurations of thunderheads gather,
unearthly shapes shifting across the gorge
where the sun god tempers day in his fiery forge;
an alchemist, he chants his spells unseen,
dissolves the ebony veil
and turns the landscape green.

power and passion in your poem Kim – love the weathering ‘dissolving the veil’ and the thunderhead murmurations. Indeed the clouds are like the starlings – and they disappear into the green of day

There is a fire in Northern New Mexico, and your image reminded me of what I see outside my window. Smoke fills the valley. I hope for rain.

I hope you’re safe, Annell, and that the fire is soon put out.
