we can trace desire in brushstrokes
compose our feelings in a song
dream that we are someone else
all night long
we write past, present and future
find possibilities in words
but we cannot swim like dolphins
or swoop and dive like birds

My response to Poets United Midweek Motif ~ Human
This week Susan would like us to write new poems giving what is human its place in the natural world, the solar system, galaxy, and/or universe.
Love! We try–but it might be better to fully explore what is human with the tools you describe. Lovely and uplifting.

I’ve got the dolphin bit down but not so good in the wing department. Then again I’m no angel.!

A beautiful poem Kim, it would be so amazing if we could swim like dolphins and swoop like birds! 🤗💖 xxx

Sadly the gifts we have been given are mostly wasted by opur greed and disrespect for the others and the world as a whole. The word Humanity has become an oxymoron.

But I seriously think dolphins are intelligent enough to be writing poems!!!

However much one desires to accomplish one’s physical limitations can frustrate our efforts

Yes, I think we all have to keep in mind that though we can do some wonderful things (with brushes or with pens) we cannot do all (marvelous) things that other living things can do!

God sure gave us the sloppy seconds and remainders. I wish we’d have been earlier in the line. – Brendan

Yes, and thank heaven we have those birds and dolphins to lift our hearts as they dive and soar. I love this poem!
