autumn mist rolls in
silencing the call to prayer
with its damp fingers Kim M. Russell, 6th September 2018
the temple bell stops but I still hear
the sound coming out of the flowers Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)

My response to Carpe Diem Tan Renga Challenge September 2018 Chained Together III (5) The Temple Bell Stops
For Tan Renga Challenge number 5 we have a twist, in which we are given the second stanza of two lines and approximately 14 syllables for which we have to create the first stanza, the hokku, of three lines following the approximately syllables count 5-7-5.
The two-line stanza has been taken and re-worked from a quote by Basho which was taken from his world famous haibun ‘Narrow Road Into The Deep North (Oku no Hosomichi).
I just read Ken’s. It’s amazing how different people come up with equally wonderful and totally different responses. The icy fingers make me feel creepy, but then it’s like we remember the sound of the bells and flowers.

Thank you, Xenia- I shall be recovering from a tooth extraction, in which the dentist found not one but two abscesses! I wish you, Pearl and Eivor a great weekend! 😊🌞 xxx
