my mother’s old ring
too small to fit my finger
her golden silence

My response to Carpe Diem’s Autumn Retreat 2018 Love Eternally
It’s time for Carpe Diem’s Autumn Retreat, a period of 30 days to write haiku or tanka every day on a specific theme: ‘love eternally’.
oh wow – how unexpected! poignant, and yet a touch sad too …. wistful perhaps – but then, maybe it’s better this way – simply because it was “her ring, her bond and union” … so a token to treasure, and hold dearly, but your bond is meant to be different.
lovely haiku Kim
(and sorry if I wandered or read too much into it – I’m “bad for it” – no offense meant)

Thank you, Pat, and no offense taken! 🙂 I keep the ring in a drawer in a small wooden chest. Sadly one of the diamonds has been lost . It;s very old.

Losses not withstanding, it is still a most treasured and lovely keepsake, I’m sure. And this is a beautiful way to honour your mother, and your memories, as well as offering moments of closeness, when needed. 🙂
