A Breath of Sea Air

The gulling of waves
takes our breath away,
puffin and skirling with the chill.

Latter-day Canutes, we crave
to tern the sea away,
but salt water cormorants and spills

onto our feet. This day
is another one that will stay
in our hearts, a snapshot and a guillemot thrill.

  1. This is absolutely stunning, Kim! I especially admire; “we crave to tern the sea away,
but salt water cormorants and spills onto our feet.”❤️❤️

  2. What a gorgeous write. I love your approach, using the interesting sea birds as verbs and adjectives. We had the chance to see puffins while visiting Newfoundland. Adorable creatures.

  3. Happy to see that others write multiple poems on challenges. So many ways to say it and you never know which one gets closest. (Probably the next.) This sea hallow has wet wings and salt spray for baptism — “a guillemot thrill.”
