She folds her arms,
just like her mother,
tries to look stern, lips
firmly pressed together,
eyes blazing. Her mother
suppresses a giggle,
hands now on hips,
gives her forefinger a wiggle –
and they both fall about
laughing at a curly–haired
three-year-old’s cheek.

It’s Quadrille Monday at the dVerse Poets Pub, where we are writing smallish poems of exactly 44 words, including one word we provide, with De, who would like us to fold our wee poems around the word fold.
So much fun with a mother-daughter like that. Love the scene you painted.

Kids learn from us don’t they. I like the way you used cheek here, Kim.

Thank you Lisa! My daughter still has barefaced cheek.

It’s always funny when my kids imitate things I do–good, bad or indifferent.😄

My daughter still does it, only she’ll be 43 next month!

😂you know, now that I have children, I catch myself using (parenting) mannerisms of my mother. Some of them make me laugh, others not so much.

This is so spot on. The outrage of a young one imitating the parent. The drama of it all.

I’ve seen that look before, I think it’s inherited (not like your cute little one pictured). Only Mrs. Jim and her mother are the ones where I’ve seen; it tells of determined anger, stern with upper lip set low on the chin.
