My Precious

High in the dark dome, you,
my late-flowering moon, become
a fully bloomed pearl, tattooed
with gossamer veins. Below,
grey and white houses tumble
down the valley, spangled
for a moment by the light, until
you are hidden by cloud,
wrapped in crushed velvet.
Our monthly tryst is over now;
I watch you sink, heavy and slow
outside my lonely window.
Come back soon,
my precious moon.

It’s Thursday and time for Open Link Night at the dVerse Poets Pub, where Lisa is in charge of the bar and we can link up any one poem of our choice or write to the movie prompt.

Lisa not only tells us about how she grew up watching movies with her father, she has also shared a poem by Billy Collins, as well as ten of The American Film Institute’s most famous movie quotes of all time.

There are three options to the challenge. I have chosen option 2, one of given quotes from AFI:  “My precious” — from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002).

  1. Kim, because of you I will look at the moon with an altered view .. I will spot the gorgeous gossamer veins. I may even consider myself ‘trysting’ with the moon tonight !!
