I wrote this poem after reading Cheryl Merrill’s blog on the Presidential Elephants of Zimbabwe.
Elephant Skin
Elephant skin
Is a map
Of all the places they have been
All the experiences they have had
Ingrained
Etched
In grey wrinkles,
Rubs
And stains.
With thanks to Cheryl Merrill for the use of her photograph. See cherylmerrill.com

the same thing happened to me.
I wrote this poem and paintings , like you. Thanks, an elephant advocate, especially for Canadian’s tortured Edmonton elephant, an artist, and blogger. barb mann

I liked your poem, but still I cry more. What does her skin say, I’m having a horrible life in this brain damaged zoo. Do any other elephants even exist?

I agree. It upsets me to see elephants being mistreated in zoos and circuses, as well as by cruel abusers and ivory hunters. And not just elephants..
