Tidings of Magpies

This week I have been developing some of the scribbles I have posted, using techniques from Helena Nelson’s ’32 ways of reviving a rejected poem’. It has been a very useful exercise and I would like to continue with it. Here is a new version of a poem I posted on 3^rd October.

Tidings of Magpies

Heralded by a clarion call

Of strident chatter

A flash of iridescent sheen

Amongst the green

Curious and intelligent

Solitary scavenger

One for sorrow

Magpie in the willow

~

A shimmer of black and white

And it’s away

With the autumn wind

To join its kind

Piebald birds

In a winter roost

Tidings of magpies

In an empty eastern sky
