At half past five, through the window,
ghostly silhouette of willow
casts, shadow-black on dusty grey,
the early hues of a new day.
A ragged scrap of sky unfolds
in tones of purple blue and gold
like marbled paper tossed away,
the early hues of a new day.
The liquid taciturnity
is rippled by birds’ melody
releasing as the shadows fray
the early hues of a new day.
Yielding to the eye of heaven
darkness lifts by half past seven
and opaque blue replaces grey:
the early hues of a new day.

This is gorgeously worded, Kim! I especially love; “A ragged scrap of sky unfolds in tones of purple blue and gold like marbled paper tossed away.” 💝

First things first, thank you for introducing me to a new form that I have to try out.
On to the poem, simply beautiful. Your words capture the beauty of the dawn fantastically, and the refrain just sets the whole thing off. Thank you for the read, and the form

This is my favorite part of the day, dawn of the new day. I specially love the colors of purple blue and gray, and this line:

Oh, how stunning and breathtaking, Kim! The final stanza is so mesmerizing, but my favorite was the first:
“At half past five, through the window,
ghostly silhouette of willow
casts, shadow-black on dusty grey,
the early hues of a new day.”
This is a poem that shook my senses with the imagery you pen, and this is just so beautifully captivating. As well with “Half past five”, it makes me think of T.S. Eliot. 🙂 An excellent poem. I love it.

There’s something magical about this time of day isn’t there? (About now as I’m writing this!) You’ve captured that magic and hopefulness here, and the repetition of ‘the early hues of a new day’ is so effective. Great photo too!

Thank you, Ingrid. The mediation the doctor prescribed recently has improved my sleep but it means I’ve been waking up later than I normally do, so I’ve missed the magical time of day for a week. Luckily, I won’t be on it for long.

It’s difficult not being able to get enough sleep though, so if you are then make the most of it! I enjoy the early part of the day but struggle later on.

I’m also a dawn lover, and you’ve described it so well. I particularly like the descriptions in second stanza,.
