First the bad news – the motherboard in my desktop PC has given up the ghost, so all of the data from the computer is being transferred to a portable disk drive to copy whatever I need to my laptop. Now that should be an interesting exercise but also very time consuming, particularly as I need the files for my extremely part-time job, which comes to an end for a few months in the next couple of weeks. It might be possible to find another motherboard but I’m not banking on that.
The good news outweighs the bad: I received an email earlier today advising me that my poem (‘Owl Music’) and short story (‘A Soul Released in Coltishall’) have been selected for inclusion in a book which is being launched later this year. I don’t know if I have won a prize, but I will receive a copy of the book at the launch.
I hope this will be the start of a run of better luck!
Are the poem and / or story online? They do often require them to be unpublished elsewhere. It makes the book even more special. Glad to hear your good news – not so good about your Mutha*****! G:)

Thank you, Graeme. I need to think hard about what to do about the PC – I’ve had it for years and worked it hard, especially when I was teaching. I prefer big clunky PCs to delicate little laptops!

Congratulations on the good news. Very good news. As for the PC – I’ve found worthy local repair shops prove cheaper and better than the big guys. Might be worth a try. Good luck with the PC and the book. 🙂

Thank you, Charlie. I have now linked up my PC’s keyboard and monitor to the laptop to make typing a little easier – I was getting a crick in my neck bending down to see the screen on the laptop!
