I am reposting a haiku/senryu as a response to Carpe Diem #915 Melody on the theme of Mother. I wrote it back in the summer after visiting my mother in the care home where she has been living for nearly two years. She has Pick’s disease, a form of dementia.
Although you’re fading,
Your smile is familiar –
Just your words are lost.

Lovely haiku. I’m sorry to hear about your mother.

Thank you. Dementia is is horrible disease – it sucks out a person’s soul.

I’m sure it is an awful thing to watch your loved ones go through. My mom is 93. She’s not the woman she was, but so far OK.
