Leaving the Bus Station

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Tale Weaver #61 – Departure

Moments bruise and bleed

Down the window

In a race

To erase

Her face

Impressed on the dusty glass

Like the Turin Shroud

The bus engine

Sputters into life, a loud

Arrhythmic heartbeat

And then

She is gone

Replaced

By a forest of faces

People en route to disparate places

With their sport bags, rucksacks and cases

Trampling on the remains

Of their goodbye

    1. When I was living in Norfolk and my husband was working in London, living in digs, he sometimes got the National Express bus from Norwich bus station. I tried to see it from his point of view in the poem.
