Butterfly Love

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Writing Prompt #155 “Collage 21”

In a hammock

Strung below a starless sky,

They unpicked a fledgling butterfly

From its gossamer cocoon

And tossed it to the moon.

On a lonely bench

Among the tallest trees,

Pages turning in the breeze,

She read him her history,

Unravelling her mystery.

In a rusty camper van,

He tied a granny knot in her soul;

He was the key to her keyhole

Until he ripped her soul apart.

Now she’s just a tree that grows hearts

For each that he takes.
