Twisted

My response to the dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille 7 – Twist

Stomach knots like ivy

bound

around

twisted branches of a gnarled tree.

Hands like ropes

strangle

entangle

twisted fingers of despair.

Hard teeth like stone

gnaw elastic

rubber lips

twisting meaningless moans.

Passion like Eden’s snake

screws

what was true

into paroxysms of insanity.

    1. As I was writing it, I had the words of Joni Mitchells’s song ‘Twisted’ going through my head: ‘My analyst told me that I was right out of my head…and you know two heads are better than one.’

  1. How well your words describe that twisted tree. And congratulations on finding a structure which uses the quadrille form to its fullest potential.
