So close
To the coast
You can hear
The rumbling murmur
And soughing sigh
Of the sea
Beyond the flint wall
That enfolds
All it holds:
A riot of hues of green;
Flames of orange poppies,
Purple tulips and peonies
Splashed as on an artist’s palette
Across a pointillist sea-cloud
Of forget-me-nots
That I will not
Forget.

I visited for the first time yesterday for lunch with a friend of mine who works as a gardener there. It’s a gem of a place.

Thank you, Hannah. I enjoyed a lovely afternoon there and was introduced to the female head gardner, who is also an artist. I was amazed at the speed at which she rakes and hoes!
