My husband found her body in the road this morning on his way to work.
You were my soul companion
Throughout the day,
With your burnished fur
That changed from brown to grey,
Your feline smile and gentle breathy purr.
I shall miss your dainty body
Perched on my shoulder
Or curled up in my lap,
On my chest or hip;
The way you pushed your head into my hand
And watched as poems formed,
You seemed to understand
Even as you tapped the keyboard
With your paw or chased the pen.
I can’t believe you’ll never do that again.
