Mansion of Dreams

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Music Prompt # 53: “Dreams” by The Corrs – although I prefer the original version by Fleetwood Mac:

 

Lost in the midnight mansion,

Wrap your dreams around you like a shawl.

Take care as you mount the stairs,

There’s no one to catch you if you fall.

Open doors to empty rooms

Beckon you as you go running by;

Shadows scuttle in the gloom

Just out of the corner of your eye.

Footsteps echo overhead

In the attic of your house of dreams;

You can’t help being afraid

When nothing is ever as it seems:

Walls and floors shift in the dark;

Window shutters slam shut in your face;

You hear the chime of a clock

Scattering dust as it resonates.

Under the roof, a skylight

Illuminated with creamy light:

Unwrap your dreams and attune

To the daguerreotype glow of moon.
