Grandmother’s 14th Birthday

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Kerry Says ~ Let’s Send a Postcard

I have used a postcard sent to my grandmother in 1926 for her 14th birthday. I have a very small collection of cards she had saved and passed on to me.

 Nans 14th birthday card

Between the wars

Dark days were briefly forgotten

In the blossoming of womanhood:

First job, first love and life was good.

The path ahead seemed full of love and gladness;

How could you foresee more loss and sadness?

But you were strong, a woman of your time,

Holding family and home together,

Through the Blitz, poverty and ill health,

With your kindness and spiritual wealth.

    1. Thank you, Helen! I’m thrilled that you like it. That postcard and the memory of my grandmother are close to my heart and I love being able to share them in poetry.
