Because it is my Heart

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads’ Because It Is My Heart ~ Micro Poetry

Because it is my heart

It does not drip blood;

Instead, a muddle of words

Drops into a puddle of mud

And, because it is my heart,

Not listening to my head,

My hands create a homunculus

To prove my heart is not dead:

A muddy muddle of a poem

In no more than ten lines.

The object of this challenge is to write a poem in no more than 10 lines (but we may write in fewer than 10 lines all the way down to a single American sentence), in our own form or free verse, using as a frame of reference the phrase ‘because it is my heart’ taken Crane’s poetic work entitled, The Black Riders and Other Lines

  1. Your mastery of words and sounds comes into its own in this short piece. I find the imagery quite easy to relate to.. that muddy puddle…

  2. I like how you used the entire reference phrase within the poem, and the images of dripping & puddles coming from the heart itself. Also, anything with alchemy in it is s bit of fun (though this has a sad tone too). 😉 Thanks for sharing!
