“For poems are like rainbows; they escape you quickly.”
—Langston Hughes, The Big Sea

I press poems

to my naked skin;

they escape so quickly

I must anchor them

with pen and ink

like ephemeral

rainbow tattoos.

Poetic butterflies

and dragonflies

take flight,

damsels in distress

I long to press

between pages,

paper cages

for dissolving images.

  1. Ah, I’ve always hated to have my eureka moments while taking a shower. The urge to write my ideas right at that moment so they won’t escape, is just too powerful. Love this, Kim!
