Honeyed Raindrops

My response to Imaginary garden with real toads Which Bee?

This weekend’s Mini-Challenge invites us to explore a moment in the life of one of the three bees flying in the stanza quoted below the image. And because three is such a lovely number, we are crafting our poems in exactly three stanzas.

In summer fields

Of daisies and thistles,

Bees hum and wind whistles.

A worker lands

On a golden flower,

Draws honeyed raindrops

From a recent shower.

Industrious,

A diligent fellow

Sets free a corona,

A brief burst of yellow

And pungent aroma.

bee trio

To be successful,

One has to be one of three bees:

The queen bee,

The hardest working bee,

Or the bee that does not fit in.

One success is inherited,

And the next one is earned.

While the last one is

Self-sought,

Self-served,

And happens on its own

Terms.

  1. I love the imagery your title brings to mind. And then, reading the rest of the poem only makes those mind-pictures better. Your bee looks so gracious doing her job, and the rhyme makes me sense her enjoyment. Delicious to read and to imagine.

  2. Kim, I love your richly written words about bees, I can just hear them buzzing around those lovely yellow blooms! My love of winged beings is passionate. My love of Hummingbirds is addictive.
