My response to dVerse Poets Pub Tuesday Poetics: The Sound of Love. This evening Walt has challenged us to explore the SOUND of love.
You fold your arms around her
With a whisper of wings,
Your breath in her ear
Like sea in a shell, washing
A distant shore and yet so near.
Your heart gallops,
A startled stallion
Running for cover,
Unsure of your lover,
Holding her with bones that creak
Like sails on a galleon.
Clothes rustle
As your fingers brush her face
In your first embrace.

That galloping stallion – incredible how you can hear your own heart beating so fiercely and unless close, not heard by anyone else.

Sometimes it’s like it’s going to burst out of your chest and gallop away!

Thanks, De. I tried to hear it from the point of view of a man. I hope I succeeded. But then, it could be a woman.

I really like the excitement and sounds of the first embrace:
Your heart gallops,
A startled stallion
Well done Kim!

Lovely. I really like the first lines: “You fold your arms around her/With a whisper of wings,/Your breath in her ear/Like sea in a shell, washing/A distant shore and yet so near.”

As I have as well, you’ve envisioned the sounds of love to come in hushed whispers (whisper of wings). Whispers are sensuous and requires one to truly listen to another.

marvellous and powerful metaphors – I can hear thundering hooves of the startled stallion – so evocative of heart beats beneath the rustle of embrace
