My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie B&P’s Shadorma and Beyond – August 20, 2016
I hadn’t heard of the poet Julia Spicher Kasdorf and will be looking for more of her work after reading today’s prompt poem:
Landscape with Desire
Next month maples along this lake will rage
orange and scarlet. Firs we barely discern
on that far shore will state their dark shapes,
so we are torn between taking it all in
from the porch and taking a swim. At night
we pull on sweatshirts, lie down on the dock,
heads nestled in life preservers, and wait
for meteors to streak the August sky
like runs in the blackest stocking against
the whitest thigh. With each plummeting light,
our voices rise like love cries, more urgent
and louder than any solitary loon or coyote
calling to its mate. Only we conflate
longing and loss like this; only we wait.

Here is my shadorma:
raging hues
burn the horizon
disappear
in black clouds
shadow smoke of distant firs
streaked with autumn sun

Kim,
I love when the hot August starts changing into the colder weather of Autumn and your words and pictures paint the season as I see the changes in my mind…thank you ever so much for putting your words and picture from my mind onto paper the way I have always seen it. You have a talent that has unlimited supply of pictures that could go on forever. Thanks again for sharing with the rest of us.

Good morning, Kat! It’s 6.30 over here. I’ve fed the cat. made myself a cup of raspberry inferno (now there’s a title for a poem!) tea and am reading emails and messages before my morning’s writing. And up comes your message. It has made me feel very lucky to have so many people on WordPress to share with. I’ve been on here a year now and have only come across kind, generous, appreciative people – just like you. It really has made my year and you have made my morning. Thank you for reading and commenting. Kim x

You are so very welcome but I didn’t say anything in there that you yourself shouldn’t be aware of…you do have a wealth of talent and it is us on WordPress that is blessed every day when we read what you write. ❤ Kat
