Closing Petals

My response to Carpe Diem #1033 the cold night

Today’s quote is from Pedro Calderon de la Barca (1600-1681, Spanish dramatist, writer and poet:   “These flowers, which were splendid and sprightly, waking in the dawn of the morning, in the evening will be a pitiful frivolity, sleeping in the cold night’s arms.”

day is at an end

scarlet poppies limp and spent

fold silken petals

blooming vivid in sunlight

closing against the cold night

  1. Kim, I love it…but I like flowers most of the time anyway…except roses because I’m allergic….your words I can see them at the end of the day..looking tired and ready to sleep ….thank you it is a nice gift you have for the reader to see things clearly in their mind..at least I can. Hope you have a great week tomorrow is hump week for me and time to go to the store and buy a few groceries to last another week. Have a wonderful day tomorrow and remember to smile it always makes people wonder what you are thinking.. ❤ Kat
