selfish love,
yearning for the moon
to fall down
in my arms,
illumine my lonely face
for just once moment

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie B&P’s Shadorma and Beyond – September 3, 2016
I was a child in the 60s and remember Rod McKuen. I loved his poetry when I was at school and had several of his books; I bought some as presents for my mother, who liked his songs. We are taking inspiration from a poem from his book Fields of Wonder.
Will
I want love
for those I love
to come from all sides
not just selfish me.
If the moon can rise for me
it ought to rise for those
who comfort me, direct or indirectly,
banked by paths that take the dreamer home
even when the dreamer doesn’t know
that I have willed his pleasant journey
