Smiling at the Sea

We stand waist-high

In marram grass,

Smiling at the sea,

Shading our eyes

Against spangles of sun

To discern a distant boat

Sunk in parallels of green

And purple marsh, cream

Sand of a windswept coast

Silvered by ice blue surf,

Tasting the zest

Of salt and mud-

It’s in our blood.

    1. Hi Sanaa! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend. Thanks for your generous comments. I’m about two thirds of the way through cleaning my study and decluttering. It’s dusty work but needed to be done. I start a course with The Poetry School in ten days, so I wanted a clean, tidy space. Now I’m in need of a walk by the sea 😊🐚 Much love, Kim
