Cardboard box,
Small and silver-grey,
Base and lid,
Ribbon-tied
In burgundy – when shaken,
There’s a rattle from inside.
Held within,
A globule of glass,
Cold to touch,
Copperish,
Farewell gift from a pupil:
An inscribed talisman wish.

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Tale Weaver # 88 Talisman, October 6, 2016
Today the prompt is ‘talisman’, an object which is believed to contain certain magical properties which would provide good luck for the possessor or possibly offer protection from evil or harm. They weave stories of our hopes, fears and dreams, our pasts and our futures.
The challenge is to weave a tale about a talisman – perhaps one of our own – and let us into the sometime secret worlds talismans represent and protect.
What a wonderful story, and gift from your student. Wish is a special talisman for sure.

It is – I keep it nearby in case I need to hold it in my hand. 🙂
