kisses and sanctuary

My response to Carpe Diem Tanka Splendor #3 rain

I’m enjoying this Sunday morning catch-up! I’ve got to day three of Tanka Splendour and the topic is so fitting – we had rain all day yesterday and most of this morning. As I look out of the window, another dark cloud hovers overhead.

Today we are still using the first of the Ten Tanka Writing Techniques by Teika, ‘mystery and depth’. Chèvrefeuille has explained that,  in ancient times, the tanka was used for mystery and depth of love between secret lovers, who hid their deeper feelings of love in their tanka, as in the example he has given us:

ah! that summer rain
the perfume of the moist soil
tickles my senses
I lay down, naked, in her arms
surrounded by Honeysuckle
