A Ride to the Sea

With the salty breath of North Sea breeze
And gritty sand in mouth and hair,
I push my bike down to the sea,
The dog in the basket without a care.
Dolorous seagulls wheel and soar,
Squawk and mew in harmony
Above the rollers’ tenor roar
In a gusty, wistful symphony.
Percussive pedals clank and jingle,
Stones crunch and shift under my feet;
We resume our ride over the shingle,
The dog in the basket, me on the seat.

    1. Thanks Xenia! Dee Nickerson is an East Anglian artist whose work I admire. My husband bought me one of her paintings as a Christmas present one year. He drove all the way to Soouthwold in Suffolk to pick it up!
