Twilight Dreaming

Shared memories fill quiet moments
like the stuffing in the sagging sofa
where we sit with cats on laps, content.

Outside, the willow fills the garden
with shadows, which the sun fragments
and enamels copper and golden.

The drapes of night make their descent
and memories turn to dreams;
the more my mind’s eye sees green and gold,
the more drained of all colour does the twilight seem.

Twilight Dreaming 2

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Rommy’s Challenge: Meme

Rommy says she’s keeping this week’s prompt simple and light. It’s based on a popular meme she’s seen floating around the internet, whereby you grab a nearby book and flip to a specific page to find a quote that represents your love life.

Rommy has given us the choice of going to either page 13 and picking the 7th sentence or page 7 and picking out the 13th sentence to use as our inspiration for a poem. For bonus points, we should make it a love poem.

I took my quote from I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, page 7, line 13: ‘…the more my mind’s eye sees green and gold, the more drained of all colour does the twilight seem.’

  1. I really enjoyed this poem – the ‘stuffing in the sagging sofa’ and the ‘cats on laps’. It brought back teenage memories for me of watching the night fall through the window’s of my mum’s old conservatory ❤
