Liquid gushes out of drains
and fills up gutters.
Is Zeus dozing
in the bath again?
I imagine him luxuriating,
how infuriating:
while rain bursts river banks
and breaches dams,
he rests his divine head.
I wish he’d shower instead.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Fashion Me Your Words to: stretch the imagination
This weekend, Gillena wants us to stretch our imaginations and ponder a natural disaster, past or recent. She wants us to tell her what role we think the gods might be playing in that particular natural disaster. She has shared a poem, ‘Tremor’ by Melissa Allen as a starting point.
Our poems can take any form but must be one hundred words or fewer.
This is Hera’s lament, Zeus snoozing in bath while water floods the world. And a wife would harp upon the alternative of the shower. This poem rings especially true in the flooding in Texas while Harvey slumbers in the empyrean tub.

This makes me smile, Kim. You manage to communicate the gravity of the floods while providing balance with subtle humour.

I liked the humor in this, too. Yeah–that Zeus, probably fantasizing about the next woman, and whether he should be a bull or a swan.
We have family in Houston that we’re worried about. I wish Zeus would shower instead, too!
