My response to Carpe Diem Weekend-meditation #14 Revise That Haiku

This weekend our challenge is to ‘revise that haiku’: re-create or revise a given haiku by a classical haiku poet, to which Chèvrefeuille has given us the background story. This time he has chosen a haiku by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694).He asks us to read the background, try to become one with the scene, or in other words ‘try to be Basho’, look at the haiku again and try to ‘revise’ it:

chi ni taore   me ni yori hana no   wakare kana

falling to the ground
a flower closer to the root
bidding farewell

Tuesday will be the first anniversary of my mother’s death.
