Violets, forget-me-nots
and pear-drop pink
honeysuckle burst
at the first
hint of heat,
spattering garden
and street with sunshine.
Somewhere, a blackbird
sings solo
and pearl-edged butterflies
weave in
and out of flowers
flouncing their colours,
true to nature’s word.

My response to Poets United Midweek Motif: Truth
This week Susan has shared quotations from Shakespeare, Goethe and Nadine Gordimer, amongst others, as well as poems to inspire us to write on about the Midweek Motif: truth. She says that back in the 1970s, Adrienne Rich’s ‘Women and Honor: Some Notes on Lying’ asserted that omission of truth is as much a lie as falsifying of information:
“The unconscious wants truth, as the body does. The complexity and fecundity of dreams come from the complexity and fecundity of the unconscious struggling to fulfil that desire.”
Susan says that she believes we poets aim always to tell the truth about things and about truth itself. But truth is difficult – which is why she asks us to choose a truth to tell in a poem, or tell our readers how and where to find ‘the truth’.
the examples are so pretty!

So true – nature never lies. Who would have thought that in 2018 we would be thinking thoughts like this! Deciding what is lie and what isn’t. Nature is true. If only we could stop RIGHT there and just enjoy.
