The air is intense and fragrant
with meadowsweet and elder,
the burn of summer a reminder
that everything is changing.
Seasons will always come and go,
the moon and love will wax and wane,
giving us another reason
to lie down in green meadows,
breathe in the sweet trickle
of bee-kissed honeysuckle
and slumber lazy in the hay
while the sun still shines all day.

A poem for Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Tuesday Platform
Sanaa shares a beautiful quote from Francis Thompson and tells us that nature is smiling at her today in shades of gold and salmon pink. How could I refuse her invitation to share some poetry and enjoy the company of toads in the imaginary garden?
This is absolutely stunning!💖 Such an ethereal vibe running through: “sweet trickle of bee-kissed honeysuckle” 😊 ..sigh.. beautifully penned.💖

Love me some summer, just for those reasons. I could feel it, smell and see it. Great Job!

I would love to be in a place like this… The scent of elder has passed unfortunately… but we captured the bloom for the winter in syrup for lemonade.

You don’t have to ask me twice. Not even once! With these words dancing in my ears, their imagery in my soul… well, there is no sunlit meadow that will go un-enjoyed. 😀

An apt poem for the days we’re having. I would love to do nothing more than lie in the grass (if my hayfever would allow it!)

We must always make hay while the sun shines. This is perfect!

This is really beautiful. It’s so hot and humid here, no napping in hay outdoors is possible, but we can dream of it. Thanks for this.

Now I’ve finished marking exam papers, I hope to get out… I may even find a meadow! 😊

Enjoy the summer, there may have been better times but this is what we have. I like it.
“… slumber lazy in the hay

Summers do have long sun shine periods, Kim. Even here along rhe Texas Gulf Coast we do have some days full of sun. More often it is mid morning before the moist sea clouds burn off.
