At the bottom of the garden,
just beyond the gate
is a perfect, peaceful bench
where I can sit and wait
in the company of dragonflies,
swans and their faithful mates.
Soothed by sun-spangled water,
hypnotised by boats, I anticipate
a flash, a kingfisher flame
to skitter low and coruscate,
bubble and ripple in the river,
dart and dive below the water.
It shakes droplets from its feathers,
raises its beak and escalates
into the crystalline azure.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Peace is every Step
Paul is hosting this Thursday from a woodland cabin and talking about peace. He is interested in how and where we find it; what it looks and feels like; and can we have peace when others do not? He has shared a poem by Wendell Berry to help us find inspiration.
I love a place where you can just sit and watch, waiting for such a bejeweled being. Maybe it’s the waiting in itself that is the real peace rather than the excitement of seeing the kingfisher

I think it’s being in the moment.

This is a perfect and beautiful moment of peace. Nature is where I find my peace for sure – and internally.

I too find my peace in nature…and cooking. I love how you describe the kingfisher. The last stanza is perfection.

What a day yesterday! We ordered a new cooker (the other one broke down completely) and then in the afternoon, for my mum’;s birthday, a mother and baby deer visited our garden. Mojo goes out now (it’s taken ages – she’s already two) and she crouched close to the ground, watching the deer the whole time! Nature is the best. 😉

Mission accomplished with clock-work precision.

I’m hoping to get some kingfisher shots of my own – using David’s camera. 😊
